The 25th Annual BET Awards Hosted By Kevin Hart Aired Last Night & Here Are Some Performances + Speeches That Stole The Show
The 25th annual BET Awards hosted by comedian Kevin Hart for a 2nd time took place in Los Angeles, California last night and showcased a night of a culture united, class personified, and appreciative of everything that black culture has brought forth to movies, music a more in the entertainment business for the last 25 years since BET the network debut on national television.
From the opening monologue given by Hart, all through the night, the mentions of BET helping out in a lot of artists and actors careers to seeing historical performances by older legendary artists as well as current popular artists in the both the Hip Hop and R and B genres seemed to be an intentional plot, showing the culture’s richness in moving the entertainment world forward for the last 25 years while becoming the world’s most popular music genre in the world.
There were many great moments and performances during the show including Glorilla, Snoop Dogg’s Ultimate Icon performance as well as Jamie Foxx’s Ultimate Icon tribute, but nothing stole the show more than Foxx’s speech.
Icons like Mya performed for the first time on the big stage in so many years, Ludacris scorched the BET Cypher in a throwback homage paid to BET’s “Rap City’s The Basement” and it’s classic in the booth freestyles, and so many artists graced the stage and gave great performances to celebrate the iconic awards show.
It can be said that there were no lousy, lackluster or terrible performances and each artist that graced the stage gave a wonderful showcase worthy of being talked about.
Check out some of the speeches and performances below and let us know who you were most happy to watch perform plus you r thoughts on the awards show in the comments section belown.
Kevin Hart opens the 25th annual BET Awards with jokes about Ye’, celebrating BET for all of it’s success and the Ultimate Icon Award recipients for the night.
Glorilla performed her songs Let Her Cook and her rendition of “Love” featuring Keyshia Cole at the BET Awards last night. Glo has always been know for her energy during performances but last night she gave more of a choreographed set, dancing and even dressing up a little fancier than usual. Given that Kevin Hart announced in his opening monologue that it was required for all guests and performers to be well put together for this year’s show, Glorilla definitely made sure of that
106 & Park made its return to BET last night, hosting lots of performances in their vintage style they created while on air years ago.
Artists such as Ashanti, Bow Wow and more showed up there and gave wonderful performances.
Kendrick Lamar continued his big year and run of collecting awards, collecting five awards in total last night, including one for “Album of the Year.” This comes off of a very publicized feud with Toronto rapper Drake, as most hip hop casuals and fans declared “K. Dot” the winner after hearing multiple diss records from both sides.
Since then, Lamar has been on a nonstop campaign as the hip hop industries best artist and has been winning almost every award at every show including the Oscars, VMA’s and BET Awards.
Snoop Dogg received his Ultimate Icon Award and gave a lengthy speech thanking everyone who played a major part in his career from the beginning. He made sure to thank Dr. Dre, Warren G., Nate Dogg, his wife Chante, encouraging all men who have a woman to “put her on the front page”, and more.
It’s worth noting that Snoop may have had the best performance of the night as he performed his own tribute, going through many of his greatest hits he’s created over a 30 year career. Congratulations to “The Doggfather” and his entire family.
Babyface, Ludacrs, Jennifer Hudson, Tank, Teddy Riley and more gave an amazing and wonderful tribute to Jamie Foxx as they celebrated Jamie’s success in music, movies and television for his Ultimate Icon Award.
Jennifer Hudson stole the show with her amazing angelic voice, but everyone from T-Pain to Tank and more gave wonderful renditions of some of Foxx’s greatest hits. Congratulations to Jamie Foxx on a well earned award.
Jamie Foxx’s Utlimate Icon Award speech may have stolen the entire show as he recalled his trouble time recovering from a stroke he suffered last year.
He spoke highly of his sister and his two daughters, crying as he praised them for not giving up on him and willing him back to life to continue his journey.
It was a heartfelt speech, and fans got a chance to see Foxx show a more serious side of himself as he’s always known for his comedic character.
Jamie also stressed to the crowd to support BET’s award show more than the Oscars, stating that black people benefit from winning BET awards more than winning an Oscar.
Congratulations to Jamie Foxx on his award.
TDE’s new artist Doechii took home her first ever BET Award, winning the Best Female Hip Hop Artist of the year.
While Doechii was excited and thankful for the award, she chose to focus everyone’s attention to the riots and police presence noticed in the streets of L.A. as police (ICE) have been instructed by President Donald Trump to round up immigrants of California for deportation.
Her speech was widely felt by the entire crowd, and she was greeted with a standing ovation as she walked off stage.
