The BET Awards 2022 is Here
The BET AWARDS 2022 are back this year, hosted by Taraji P. Henson for a 2nd consecutive year and it airs tonight at 8pm on BET. This annual award show which has been around for over 20 years is the most prestigious awards show for the black community and has been among the most awards shows watched on cable television, per billboard.com.
This year, the BET Awards highlight that stands out includes P.Diddy, who will be receiving his “Lifetime Achievement Award” to celebrate his legendary success in the music business as both an artist and a CEO. P Diddy has brought some of the greatest talents of hip hop to the world and has seen a great deal of success as both an executive and artist.
He has played a big role in Mary J. Blige’s career and success, working with Andre Herrell to help bring hits like “Real Love” and many of Mary J Bliges’ greatest hits. He has produced careers for artists such as The Notorious B.I.G. who’s gone on to become the greatest rapper of all time, The LOX, Mase, Lil Kim, 112, Total, Faith Evans, Loon, Black Rob, French Montana, and many more artists.
He’s worked with the likes of Busta Rhymes, Nas, Keyshia Cole, Usher, Nelly, and many more legendary artist while going on to sell over 100 million records as a CEO of “Bad Boy Records”, one of the greatest record labels in the late 90’s to the early 2000’s.
Some of the names that will be performing of behalf of P.Diddy include Mary J. Blige, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Faith Evans, The LOX, Lil Kim and many more.
P. Diddy definitely deserves this award for a great career, and tonight we join the Bet Awards in recognizing and celebrating a wonderful career. Congrats to P.Diddy on this great honor.
Along with the BET honor for P. Diddy, Denzel Washington and Queen Latifah will both be nominated for best actors for this year’s honors. If won, this will be Queen Latifah’s 2nd straight year taking the award home, as she won it last year at the 2021 BET AWARDS.
Performances from some of the biggest artists in music today include Latto, Meg The Stallion, Chance The Rapper, Roddy Ricch, Lizzo, Lil Wayne (who was added as a late addition), Babyface, Ella Mae and many More.
Lizzo and Roddy Ricch both performed at the 2019, 2020, and the 2021 BET AWARDS and are back again to perform for another year. This is not Chance The Rapper or Meg The Stallion’s first rodio as both performed in previous years and we look forward to their moments when they hit the stage.
Doja Cat leads all nominees at the 2022 BET Awards with 6 nominations and according to billboard.com, she is the first and only artist to ever be nominated in both categories R&B/pop and Hip Hop for all nominations.
Doja Cat has been a big artist for the last five years, and besides her controversial racial statements, she has seen a very successful career with hits like “Say So”, “Streets” which sparked one of the biggest Tik Tok viral moments, the “SIlhouette Challenge” and has done features with City Girls and the Weeknd.
Besides Doja Cat, both Drake, and Ari Lennox come in 2nd with 4 nominations apiece. Drake has just dropped his newest album “Honestly, Nevermind” which was released last week, claiming the number 1 spot while going on to sell 210, 323 copies.
Other nominees include Baby Keem, Silk Sonic, Future, H.E.R., Mary J. Blige, Ye (formerly known as Kanye West), Kendrick Lamar who has also dropped the largest album of the year with his newly released album “Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers” a month ago.
Kendrick Lamar made history seeing all of his songs for his latest album enter the billboard hot 100 chart while also selling over 295, 500 copies during its first week sales. He has seen his song “N95” enter the top 3 on billboard and has many hits charting around the top ten as of late. His album still holds the highest selling debut this year and we’re sure he will go on to win many awards.
Idris Elba joins BET as a presenter as well as Ne-Yo, Bleu, Daniel Kaluuya, Eva Marcille, Janelle Monae, Keke Palmer and more.
Kirk Franklin will be performing for the gospel genre as well as Maverick City and we’ll also see MC Lyte return as BET’s annual announcer.
