Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz KO’S Former Lightweight Champion Rolando Romero To Win Title
Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz dominated Rolando “Rolly” Romero all night before plunging himself in route to a vicious stoppage by Judge Tom Taylor last night at the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
From the opening bell, there seemed to be two very distinct differences in both fighters. One is that Cruz, always the aggressor, planned on coming forward at “Rolly” in an attempt to apply pressure, and the other is that “Rolly” came into the fight looking to survive for 12 rounds and that he was scared of Cruz’s punching power.
He felt that power early in the fight as both fighters, late in the first round came in to exchange with each other and Cruz was able to get a left hook in flush that stunned Rolly and had his legs shaky for the rest of the round.
No knockdown occurred, but its safe to say that Cruz was putting his fight plan together and it was working well. He controlled the fight all throughout, and although Rolly landed with a few good combinations as Pitbull would seemingly take a rest period, his punches did not seem to have the same effect on Cruz as Cruz did on him.
Cruz pounded away at Rolly, beating him up and finally was able to hurt Rolly again in the 7th round, forcing “Rolly” to leave his gaurd down, which is officially what got the fight stopped a round later as Cruz continued to do the same , as he got the stoppage early in the 8th round.
Congrats to Cruz on his victory and we wish Romero a great and continuous career.
Tell us your thoughts about the fight, Cruz’s performance and whether you believe Romero should continue his career boxing after suffering two horrible losses to the likes of Tank Davis and Pitbull Cruz.
With all the talk surrounding a rematch between Cruz and Davis last year, that's a potential fight that can be made this year, but first Gervonta will have to get past “The Ghost” Frank Martin as both are scheduled to fight each other mid June.
There's also an intriguing possibility of Cruz taking on the winner of the Garcia vs Haney fight. Either way, his options are not few.
